Whistleblower system in accordance with the Whistleblower Protection Act (Hinweisgeberschutzgesetz)
Information on the Whistleblower Protection Act
The EU Whistleblower Protection Directive has been in force for some time and will soon be fully implemented in Germany. The German Whistleblower Protection Act was published on June 2, 2023 and will be valid from July 2, 2023.
Things to know about the Act
The aim of the Whistleblower Protection Act is to better protect people who wish to draw attention to misconduct in companies. Companies are therefore obliged to introduce an internal reporting office with associated reporting channels. Employees can use this to report irregularities such as corruption or other violations.
Depending on the size of the company, different deadlines apply for setting up the reporting office. Companies with more than 250 employees must have already implemented this by July 2, 2023. For companies with 50 to 249 employees, the deadline is December 17, 2023.
