BVDW zur Cookie Entscheidung von Google

Googles Entscheidung, auch wenn diese sehr spät erfolgte, gibt Klarheit zum Verbleib der Cookies und sorgt gleichzeitig für mehr Unsicherheit in der Digitalen Wirtschaft. Diese Entscheidung beruht am Ende aber auf einem intensiven Dialog mit dem Ökosystem, den wir als Verband immer gefordert und gefördert haben. 

Zahlreiche Akteure haben über die vergangenen Jahre viel in den Umbau investiert – möglicherweise umsonst. Gleichzeitig sind in dieser Zeit nachhaltige Lösungen entstanden, die außerhalb von Cookies bereits erfolgreich arbeiten. 

Inwieweit der neu eingeschlagene Weg zu mehr Akzeptanz und Klarheit führt, lässt sich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt noch nicht sagen. Verloren gegangenes Vertrauen ist deshalb durch ein transparenteres Miteinander zurückzugewinnen. 

Wir sehen die Notwendigkeit, den Dialog fortzusetzen und zu intensivieren, um zukünftige Unsicherheiten auf ein Minimum zu beschränken. Teil dessen sollte sein, keine weiteren Barrieren durch rechtlich nicht gebotene Vorgaben aufzubauen oder rechtliche Vorgaben gar zu unterminieren. 

Im Mittelpunkt stehen für uns als BVDW immer die Chancen für Nutzer*innen und das gesamte Ökosystem. Dafür braucht es kurzfristig verlässliche Informationen zur Ausgestaltung und ein klar definierten Zeithorizont mit Meilensteinen.

Google’s decision, although very late, provides clarity on the situation and future of cookies. At the same time, it creates more uncertainty for the digital economy. This decision is ultimately based on an intense dialog with the ecosystem, which we as an association have always insisted upon and fostered.  

Over the past years, numerous players have made significant investments in the transition – possibly in vain. At the same time, sustainable solutions besides cookies have emerged that are already working successfully.  

At the moment, it is not possible to say if and to what extent the new approach will lead to greater acceptance and clarity. Decreasing trust must therefore be regained through a more transparent approach.  

In order to keep future uncertainties to a minimum, we see a need to continue and intensify the dialogue. This should include avoiding the creation of additional barriers by imposing unnecessary legal requirements or even undermining legal requirements.  

As BVDW, we always prioritise opportunities for users and the entire ecosystem. To accomplish this, we require reliable information on the design and a clearly defined roadmap with milestones in the short term.
